It is full of hunka hunka burning love here at Tellico Village this year.  The Villagers are all happy to help and support each other and the local Fire/Rescue Department. Retirees are taking notice of the tight-knit community initiatives, and this is not the only reason to celebrate Tellico Village and the local residents.

Located in Loudon County, on the western shore of Tellico Lake, this award winning master-planned community is in close proximity to The Great Smoky Mountains. In 1986, the creation of Tellico Village led to a revival period in this area of Tennessee. The gorgeous lakefront properties and wooded plots of land were breath-taking sights for incoming residents at that time. Now, 28 years later, Tellico Village has added new features and amenities that enhance the natural beauty of the land. More than 7,000 residents appreciate Tellico Village’s qualities and are even happier that they live in a secure and safe atmosphere thanks to the community Fire/Rescue Department. Tellico Village won Community Finder's 2014 Bliss Award for Happiest Community of the Year.

The Fire/Rescue Department at Tellico Village is a group of skilled volunteers who are dedicated to helping their neighbors and friends. Some have no experience and are committed to learning and training to help during an emergency. Others have experience in emergency rooms, ambulance rescue, professional training in fire and law enforcement departments. All of these individuals are volunteers, of all ages, who are assigned to respond to emergency calls or house calls that need their undivided attention.

The Tellico Village Fire/Rescue Department is one of only a few teams that still make house calls in master-planned communities on Tellico Lake. For last year the department assisted with 540 emergency calls last year.  Approximately 80% of calls were for medical emergencies and 20% for fire, and all of them were handled by the volunteers in this community.

In order to become a volunteer for the community Fire/Rescue Team, there is a strict training program to ensure quality service. Each volunteer completes 60 hours of training, a CPR/AED course, and they are required to be certified as an Emergency First Responder or EMT. Along with these impressive credentials, the team is led by 14 EMTs certified by the state and a handful of First Responders. This group of 34 active members are top-notch and are dedicated to putting their lives on the line to maintain the safety of their fellow neighbors. With their passion for helping and there advanced equipment for these high-priority tasks, the community is in good hands!

The equipment is provided by Tellico Village and shows how serious this task force is. The Tellico Village Fire/Rescue Department has: a rescue boat, up-to-date firefighter equipment, two rapid response emergency medical vehicles and, of course, two fully-equipped fire-engines to save the day! The team even has an emergency medical boat that is stationed at the community yacht club. On land or in water, the team is prepared for any need, and the additional support of the community makes this team even stronger.

Along with the equipment, skilled individuals, the residents at Tellico Village are the core of the community. The Fire/Rescue Department relies on the community as much as they rely on them. To maintain this team, funds from the Property Owner’s Association and Loudon County are provided. The rest comes from the residents and the amount of residential donations equals more than $700,000 in past six years. These funds support the maintenance of the equipment, the local firehouse and the fire/rescue boat.

The money has been put to good use and this is a win-win for the community. Retirees and families living at Tellico Village benefit from the high insurance rating as a result of the Fire/Rescue Team establishment. The high insurance rating positively impacts Tellico Village homes insurance rates, and this is just another perk of living at this master-planned community in Eastern Tennessee.

From the father of five children to the retired couple living down the street, everyone has an opportunity to give back when they join the Fire/Rescue Department at Tellico Village.
