River of Love Extends To River Dunes in New Bern NC

River Dunes Community Event
Published on July 2, 2012

The summer is here and is the best time of the year to see sailboats under full sail out on the horizon. Somehow to us, just the sight of them gently pushes the stress aside, putting the important things in life back into perspective. We can only imagine how being the captain and crew on these beautiful vessels adds joy to their well being.

Last year we had the pleasure of being introduced to the sailing capital of North America in Oriental, one of the best small towns being discovered for retirement. This coastal area lies towards the middle of North Carolina, about an hour west of the Outer Banks. What brought us here? A charming North Carolina coastal community we'd heard about named River Dunes. It is found where the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) meets the expansive Pamilco Sound and the Neuse River. Baby Boomers who love boating will appreciate this Inner Banks marina community, if you're searching for New Bern real estate.

While there are only about 35 homes built to date of the 650 planned, this North Carolina coastal community continues flex its big loving heart by their community outreach to help others. Last year I wrote about their hearts of gold which was a Bike MS two day cycling event in New Bern raising money for multiple sclerosis. River Dunes was one of the stops along the charity ride, greeting cyclists with lunch and sending them off with a smile.

Last week, River Dunes was at it again, this time for their own 2nd Annual Leukemia Cup at River Dunes and they raised over $100,000 to help a local charity. Festivities began with a Captain’s Party at River Dunes followed by 36 sailboats competing in the event the next day. Back at the River Dunes Harbor Club, cocktails and a silent auction kicked off a catered dinner rolling into the evening as the attendees enjoyed the spirit of River Dunes, an Inner Banks marina community.

River Dunes is one of the happiest communities on our website, based on property owner scorecards and comments. Is it because of the completed resort-style amenities, the full service Grace Harbor marina and quick access to the Intracoastal Waterway? Or is because the close bond and friendships this North Carolina coastal community has built together? Whatever it is, this quaint waterfront neighborhood has got it going on and scores with us.

Life at River Dunes revolves around the water. Whether you need to dock a jet ski, 18’ speed boat or a 90’ yacht cruiser, the full service marina at River Dunes can accommodate most water toys. Boaters heading north and south on the Intracoastal Waterway often choose to spend the night at Grace Harbor at River Dunes and many have bought New Bern real estate here as a result. River Dunes has won several marina awards; Sustainable Community of the Year for going green, Clean Marina and has captured five star reviews from the most finicky captains on Active Captain.com. Congratulations River Dunes on another significant achievement and for your big hearts.

It’s not too late to plug into this North Carolina coastal community and be a part of the legacy being created at River Dunes. If you’re a buyer searching for where to retire in North Carolina, we encourage you to learn more about River Dunes.
