WILMINGTON NC GOLF COMMUNITIES IN FOCUS

The spotlight is about to shine brightly on Wilmington, North Carolina, one of the most progressive and fast growing cities in the south. May 2017 will mark the return of the PGA Tournament to the port city. The 2017 Wells Fargo Championship will be held at the prestigious Eagle Point Golf Club.  This is without a doubt a huge plus for the Wilmington NC golf communities and the city at large.

Eagle Point Golf Club’s reputation is credited with helping to secure the contest there.  Thomas Fazio designed the 18-hole regulation course in 2000.  The rolling green link was ranked 48th on Golf Digest’s 2011-12 Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses in America.  And in a state that treasures its golf courses, Eagle Point Golf Club scored among the top-10 courses in North Carolina securing 3rd place.  No wonder Wilmington is among the top places to live in North Carolina.  What golf fanatics wouldn’t want to call Wilmington home?

Wilmington NC golf communities aren’t the only ones excited about this upcoming event.  With an estimated 30,000 spectators expected to make their way to Wilmington to witness the tournament, Port City residents and businesses are ready to show attendees and tourists what makes Wilmington one of the top places to live in North Carolina.  City officials estimate the 4-day contest will bring a $40-$60 million dollars boost to the economy.  And not just city coffers are expected to see a financial windfall; local charities are projected to be on the receiving end, too.

It’s been 46 years since the PGA Tour has played in Wilmington, North Carolina.  The 2017 Wells Fargo Championship turned to Eagle Point Golf Club as a one-year replacement venue.  Several PGA Tour players have played Eagle Point, so it’s understandable that PGA officials deemed this course an excellent stand-in for the Quail Hollow Club, which incidentally underwent a re-design by Fazio in 1997 and 2003.  The tour will return to the Charlotte, North Carolina Club in 2018.  Any way you look at it, it’s still a win-win for North Carolina.

The event will give Wilmington NC retirement communities a chance to show tourists and tour attendees why seniors and retirees flock to this town.   According to tour officials, the contest will be televised to one billion households in 225 different countries.  Many celebrity golfers are already aware of the city’s distinction. In short, Wilmington, it’s your time to shine.  Fabulous golf courses maintain a huge draw for Wilmington NC retirement communities. Pristine courses anchor the landscape of many of the state’s master-planned estates.

Three standouts: The Country Club of Landfall, Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest and Big Cats Golf Courses of Ocean Ridge Plantation.

Touted as one of North Carolina’s premier golf communities, the Country Club of Landfall is located in beautiful historic Wilmington. The Landfall club sits on more than 2000 acres of land.  Members of this costal retreat enjoy many top-notch fitness amenities.  Among those features are a sports center, tennis court and of course, a spectacular golf course.  The Country Club of Landfall provides year-round activities, yet, another great feature.

Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest is Wilmington NC golf communities’ newest golf haven. Last year the course received an 11th rating from Golfweek’s Best Course You Can Play in North Carolina List.  Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest is close to downtown Wilmington and 45 minutes from Myrtle Beach, which makes it an ideal course to play when living in North Carolina.

The name says it all: The Big Cats Golf Courses of Ocean Ridge Plantation.  This award winning and nationally recognized golf venue is located in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.  While it’s opened to all levels, expect a serious challenge when playing one of the four premiere courses here.

If the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship PGA Tour is on the list of must do’s for next year, why not add a visit to one of North Carolina’s luxury golf courses, too?  Take in a few rounds, check out the scene in nearby downtown Wilmington, or tour one of Wilmington NC golf communities and see why this coastal town has become one of the top places to live in North Carolina.
