Mountain Air Celebrates 25th Anniversary

2015 BLISS AWARD winner - Best Mountain Community of the Year
Mountain Air Country Club, one of the most iconic and acclaimed planned communities in the country, recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a gala weekend full of treasured memories, family activities and a commitment to carrying on the community flame for the next 25 years.
The inspired vision of two local Burnsville families, the Banks and the Youngs, Mountain Air is a stunning, 1,300-acre private enclave perched at the top of Slickrock Mountain nearly a mile high in the North Carolina Blue Ridge. Located just 30 minutes north of the storied and embracing city of Asheville, Mountain Air's 100-mile views, inspired master plan and impeccable amenities have drawn families from around the world to its singular brand of mountain magic.
Mountain Air Country Club General Manager Andy Singleton reflected on the last quarter century on the mountain. "This special community has touched the lives of so many people over the years as its grand vision has transformed into a remarkable reality. Their most cherished family memories are sprinkled with the wonder of this special mountain." said Singleton.
The list of superlatives at Mountain Air is considerable. It has earned the Gold Award from the National Association of Home Builders for the "Best Community in America." Its Slickrock Village Green, the welcoming hearth of the community, was voted the country's Best Special Amenity, also by the NAHB. It has been featured on The Travel Channel, HGTV, Wall Street Journal, MSNBC and the New York Times. At 4,919 feet of elevation, Mountain Air boasts the highest paved airplane runway, tennis courts and clubhouse for 1200 miles in any direction. And their signature 8th golf green is set cliffside looking southeast across thousands of acres of national forest to the 6,684-foot peak of Mount Mitchell, the highest point in the eastern United States.
Today, Mountain Air is defined by the focus it maintains in manifesting a sense of "community" for the residents and club members at the property. Not just through its Slickrock Village Green common area, but also through broad-reaching family activity programs driven by an in-house naturalist and director of family recreation, and by the preservation of a 100-acre Old Growth Forest complete with interactive environmental educational programs. Additionally, neighborhood parks are connected with a vast network of nature trails, all of which provide family learning opportunities.
As Mountain Air reflects on its 25-year history, it also is looking forward to the next quarter century. The community recently unveiled a new marketing initiative whereby more awareness is created to attract unique individuals who desire the exclusive atmosphere of a mile-high community among the Blue Ridge Mountains.
