Market Report - Savannah Georgia

The excitement is building among the Irish with only 17 days to go until the second largest St. Patricks Day Parade in the world held in Savannah Georgia. About 750,000 people decked out in kelly green line the streets to watch this huge parade. As with Charleston and Beaufort South Carolina, this Low Country city is charming hugging the coast. Rich with history, Savannah is Georgia’s first official city and is nicknamed the Hostess City of the South.
Baby Boomers are drawn to this best college town, home to the Savannah College of Art and Design ( SCAD ) and Armstrong Atlantic University. Food celebrities like Paula Dean share southern comfort foods at swanky historic restaurants in downtown Savannah. While the Savannah riverfront is home to chic hotels and pirate themed bars, downtown Savannah isn’t where most folks search when exploring where to retire. Baby Boomers tend to be drawn to Skidaway Island or Richmond, both south of downtown Savannah. With Georgia phasing out state income tax on retirement income up to $130,000 for joint filers, we anticipate the interest in Savannah neighborhoods will continue to increase with folks searching for where to retire in Georgia.
