Buyer's seeking to find the best cities to live usually end up in places near clean rivers, streams and lakes. Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega Georgia is blessed by having the Chestatee River as a natural community amenity. The Chestatee River is a 50 mile river about 50 feet wide which flows downhill from the Appalachian Mountains ending in Lake Sidney Lanier Georgia and is nicknamed Chattahoochee’s “little brother” or the “River of Running Lights”. The Chestatee River is a popular river to kayak, canoe and tube the winding pins and turns through the majority of the river. Fisherman can be easily seen along the Chestatee River catching rainbow and brown trout. In the spring, white bass run through the river attracting more fisherman.

The majority of the Chestatee River is unspoiled by Dahlonega GA real estate development and commercial businesses. Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega is one of the few northern Georgia mountain communities on the Chestatee River, near Amicalola Falls State Park. According to public records, Achasta Golf Club had a difficult time obtaining sales in 2011 as a Reynolds Signature Community. Reynolds Development experienced financing dilemmas this past spring when the banks would not renew their commercial notes. When we pulled back the curtains to take an inside glimpse to see how this northern Georgia mountain community is doing, we see Achasta Golf Club is alive and well. The social thread of the community has been actively involved in the local community and continues to host important events at Achasta Golf Club. In August, Achasta Golf Club hosted the 2nd annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Championship where Michigan State’s Lindsey Solberg and Caroline Powers took home the golf trophy. Fifty-eight two person teams competed in the event. Each month, an Achasta golf member hosts the Achasta Twightlight Grille where guest speakers are invited to share their wisdom and experiences with attendees. This past year, guest speakers included Vince Dooley, the former head football coach of the UGA Bulldogs and Loran Smith, a sideline broadcaster for the UGA Bulldogs.
