Published on August 20, 2013

It’s almost time for the splendor of the Western North Carolina fall foliage and to discover the first class amenities at Balsam Mountain Preserve, just minutes from a Blue Ridge Parkway entrance in Waynesville.

The center of it all is Balsam’s rustically elegant Boarding House Restaurant. Because of the relaxing views and trendy cuisine, this private gated community’s restaurant is known as one of the best places to dine in the Waynesville area. Nowadays, head chef Ryan Queen keeps club members coming back with his elegantly prepared and presented cuisine. His menu changes often and he capitalizes on seasonal, local produce when creating menu items which are always well-received.

The Boarding House Restaurant is one of the many treasured amenities at Balsam Mountain Preserve less than 10 minutes from a Blue Ridge Parkway entrance in Waynesville. Without a doubt, one of the highlights of the restaurant is the large, covered, wraparound porch with an abundance of cozy mountain rustic chairs, outdoor seating for the restaurant, and an enchanting outdoor fireplace. It’s is the perfect place to catch up with neighbors and enjoy the sunset and brilliant North Carolina fall foliage. For those who prefer an indoor seating, the great room acts as a more intimate dining room and library which boasts leather seating in front of the fireplace as well as commanding views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Boarding House was designed architecturally to resemble the cozy cottages and cabins that are found throughout the mountainside. The great room contains a stone fireplace and high ceilings with exposed beams and mechanized dormers which give off plenty of natural light and takes full advantage of the seasonal mountain air.  Everything here was designed to look natural and organic utilizing reclaimed and vintage materials.

The Boarding House is also home to 10 captivating Boarding House cabins which are a part of the Balsam Mountain Private Residence Club. The cabins gracefully combine rustic mountain styling with a modern twist and several of the cabins are pet friendly. All are built with stacked stone and antique wood, the walls and ceilings are finished with antique milk paint, and the floors are constructed from reclaimed wood found locally from old barns and farmhouses, and the roofs are a combination of reclaimed tin recovered from local mountain barns and new pine shakes. Recycled and sustainable materials augment all of the local heirloom materials.  Geothermal technology is used to heat the cabins, and modern luxuries with rustic details abound throughout the interior spaces. The large, natural stone fireplaces that heat the indoor living spaces and the large outdoor porch spaces are the capstones of the cabins making it cozy to enjoy the famous North Carolina fall foliage. It’s rustic luxury with an eye toward the stewardship of the land.

Charm exudes from everything created at Balsam Mountain Preserve including the social events residents look forward to.
