Osher Lifelong Learning Greenville SC Universities Receive Millions

For decades, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute nicknamed OLLI, has offered enriching brain fitness classes across America. In early 2000, OLLI began focusing its course curriculum on continuing education mature adults over age 50 would enjoy. Lifelong learning classes in music, art, history and travel. Social consciousness has increased dramatically over the past decade because of global warming and energy issues. OLLI classes also include environmental issues, politics and social services. Classes as OLLI are exciting and are much more than Grandpa's bingo classes.
Greenville South Carolina was originally known as The Textile Capital of the World. Today, the automotive industry has reshaped its reputation by BMW and Michelin choosing Greenville SC as their North American headquarters. South Carolina is quickly transforming into one of the best cities to retire as a best art town, home to fantastic weather and a low cost of living. The Upcountry area has 5 private and 7 public universities. Furman University, Bob Jones University and Clemson University are the most well known. In November, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute relocated Clemson University programs to a dedicated campus at the new Clemson’s Patrick Square. This campus is called The Cheezem Education Center. Over 1,000 students are members of OLLI at Clemson University and is in close proximity to The Reserve at Lake Keowee, a Western South Carolina lake community ideal for Baby Boomers who enjoy a lakefront lifestyle. The Reserve at Lake Keowee is thrilled to see OLLI expand in Clemson South Carolina.
Furman University in Greenville South Carolina was one of many universities across America to receive a $1 million endowment gift this month expanding OLLI programs. Baby Boomers are attracted to best college towns like Clemson South Carolina because of the exciting collegiate sports, cultural entertainment and part-time teaching opportunities. More serious minded mature adults can continue degree seeking courses they may have put on hold during their child raising years. Best college towns typically have hip restaurants, cool coffee shops, live music and great book stores.
As Baby Boomers continue to change the face of America, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute understands the joy of learning and is providing an important contribution to our aging society. A place to maintain brain fitness and share passions. If you have children, do you remember the difficult transition from being a full time parent to becoming an empty nester? If you’re like us, it was an awkward time when our son moved away to college leaving the nest. Baby Boomers are experiencing the same awkward transition retiring from their careers and social environments. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is bridging the gap, helping retirees feel connected in society.
We wonder if our Baby Boomer generation will continue to be self indulgent as we age or will we become more socially generous? The separation between the income classes continues to widen, between the have and have not's. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute levels the playing field offering scholarship support to mature adults with limited resources. We're happy to see Baby Boomers with more time on their hands engaging in volunteerism giving back to the local communities and we see this often in places like The Reserve at Lake Keowee, a Western South Carolina lake community. To me, OLLI is today's 'hip' Baby Boomer social club.
