Medical Care - Veterans Hospitals and Clinics in the Best Military Retirement Areas
It's no wonder there are over 1,400 Veterans Medical Centers and Clinics throughout the United States when you discover one out of four social security recipients or approximately 9 million people are military veterans. Most veterans are eligible for quality health care benefits. It makes sense veterans would want to retire in areas in close proximity to Veterans Hospitals and Veterans Medical Centers which saves them money. The United States Department of Veterans Affairs provides a list of medical facilities by state on their website: www2.va.gov
To make it easier for veterans, we grouped these Veterans Hospitals by geographic regions verses the alphabetical list provided on the government website. We focused the list on the best states to retire in the Southeast; Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. As you scroll down the list, each state begins with the northern region and moves to the south part of the state.
Do you know, Florida and Tennessee does not tax military pensions? North Carolina taxes over $4,000 of annual income, South Carolina taxes over $10,000 of annual income after age 65 and Georgia taxes over $35,000 of income over age 62. Beginning in 2012, Georgia is phasing out state taxes on retirement income up to $130,000 for joint filers.
