If you’re exploring the possibilities of moving to Savannah, are you ever in for a treat! This city, steeped in history, has so much to offer it’s hard to know just where to begin. From mouth watering restaurants to seaside activities, there's something for everyone in Savannah. Add to it the nation's second largest St. Patrick's Day Festival and you'll never be bored. As a matter of fact, there were so many fun things to suggest, we had a hard time deciding upon our top ten favorite fun things to do. Here's some ideas to help you learn more about the area:

700 KITCHEN COOKING SCHOOL  - Mansion on Forsyth Park, 700 Drayton St, Savannah, GA 31401 Phone: 912-721-5044

A tantalizing interactive culinary experience that allows you to craft your own gourmet cuisine, whether you are a chef or just a novice. Classes are equally well-suited to individuals or groups of up to 15 participants. While you create and eat your own savory creations in these entertaining, hands-on classes, everyone works as a team to prepare the meal. From in-depth discussion and explanation of culinary technique to clever tricks to enhance your cooking abilities, featured Chef Peter Russo oversees these programs in a gorgeous state-of-the-art, full-sized kitchen.

Hours of Operation: Classes are generally held from 5:00-8:00p.m. but advance registration is required due to limited space. (No more than 15 students per class)

BULL RIVER MARINA BOAT RENTALS / TAXI TO DAUFUSKIE ISLAND - 8005 US Highway 80 East, Savannah, GA 31410 Phone: 912-897-7300

Take a quick, smooth trip to Daufuskie Island aboard an open boat, and enjoy a day or evening of dancing, food and drink at Marshside Mama's. The evening ride offers the additional perk of a late-night return trip just as the moon is rising. The Bull River Marina also offers boat rentals.

CATHEDRAL OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST  - 222 East Harris Street, Savannah, GA 31401 Phone: 912-233-4709

This magnificent cathedral has undergone numerous stages of growth and change since the church's origins in the late 1700s when the first parish was established by immigrants fleeing turmoil in Haiti and France, who called it the Congregation de Saint Jean-Baptiste. Over the next two centuries there have been several incarnations of the building, but the current French Gothic style Cathedral structure was built in 1873 and dedicated in 1876. In 1898 the building was gutted by fire and completely rebuilt. Renovations in the 20th century brought the building to its current state of glory, and it is truly a sight to behold.

Hours of Operation: Worship Services are held seven days a week on the following schedule: Saturday 12:00 Noon & 5:30p.m.; Sunday 8:00a.m., 10:00a.m., & 11:30a.m.; Weekdays: Monday through Friday 7:30a.m. & 12:00 noon; Holy Days 7:30a.m., 12:00 Noon, & 6:00p.m.; Sunday Latin Mass 1:00p.m.; Nursery available for 10:00a.m. Masses on Sunday; Confessions taken Saturday 11:00a.m.-11:45a.m. & 

Saturday 4:15p.m.-5:00p.m., also by request at other times.

HISTORIC SAVANNAH THEATRE - 222 Bull Street, Chippewa Square, Savannah, GA 31401 Phone: 912-233-7764 

This theater has been pleasing crowds with live theater productions, off and on, since 1818. The original theatre burned in 1948 and was rebuilt in the Art Deco style, then reinvented for a while as a movie theater in the 1950's before returning to use as a live-action theatre. Oscar Wilde, Tyrone Power and W.C. Fields are but two of the many well-known personalities to perform or have their work presented on the stage here. Restored and ready for your visit, offering fantastic live shows almost every day of the week.

Hours of Operation: Sunday through Tuesday 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m., Wednesday through Saturday 10:00a.m.-8:00p.m.

LUCAS THEATRE FOR THE ARTS  - 32 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31401 Phone: 912-525-5040

Arthur Lucas, the theatre's founder and namesake, was a native of South Carolina who grew up in Savannah. In 1907 he began a lifelong career and love affair with show business, with his entrance into the motion picture industry. He eventually became president of the American Theaters Corporation and was involved in the construction of over 40 theaters. The Lucas Theatre, which opened in 1921, is the only one which is named after him. It is now a mixed-use facility, alternating between motion pictures and live shows, with something to delight audiences of all ages and tastes.

Hours of Operation: Most shows start at 8:00p.m., but the box office and concession stand are open earlier, and one may also tour the theatre when there is no production going on. Call ahead for more details regarding tour hours, as they vary depending on currently scheduled shows.

RIVER STREET WATERFRONT  - River Street, Savannah, GA 31401 

Take a walk on cobblestone streets and down memory lane along the famous waterfront at Historic Downtown Savannah's River Street. This is where you'll find century-old former cotton warehouses that have been transformed into alluring galleries, quaint antique shops and cozy boutiques, along with brew pubs and restaurants. There are even a few exciting nightspots as well as charming inns and hotels... some of which have the reputation of being haunted. Find out for yourself, and enjoy people watching along the Savannah River, too. You can take a cruise from here, or just watch tankers from around the world come and go from one of America's busiest deepwater ports.

Hours of Operation: Hours vary, and some of the establishments are open quite early, others into the wee hours.

SAVANNAH CANOE & KAYAK TOURS  - 414 Bonaventure Rd, Savannah, GA 31404 Phone: 912-341-9502

This top-notch company provides canoeing and kayaking instruction as well as guided tours and even camping adventures to the barrier islands along the Georgia Coast. Professional, yet relaxed and informal, these paddling adventures are tools for educating visitors about the dynamic marine environment.

Hours of Operation: Sunday 12:00 noon–5:00p.m., Closed on Monday, Tuesday through Friday 10:00a.m.–6:00p.m., Saturday 10:00a.m.–5:00p.m.

SAVANNAH HISTORIC DISTRICT STROLL / CITY MARKET - 301 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Savannah, GA 30334 Phone: 912-944-0455

The district is actually a National Historic Landmark due to the distinctive grid plan of its layout, as well as the well-preserved 18th and 19th century architecture. Based on divisions called wards, squares, and "trustee lots.", and laid out in 1733 by General James E. Oglethorpe, Savannah retains much of the original town plan to this day. Most of the original squares are still present, surrounded by buildings which provide fine examples of the Georgian, Greek Revival, and Gothic styles.

SAVANNAH TASTE EXPERIENCE FOOD TOURS  - 134 Whitaker Street, Suite 2, Savannah, GA 31401 Phone: 912-221-4439

The First Squares Food Tour is offered every day, while the Famous & Secret East Side Food Tour (not recommended for children) is only offered from Wednesday through Saturday. The First Squares Food Tour visits seven delectable foodie spots which surround Savannah's squares. You'll learn about the food and restaurants as well as the history and the culture behind them. On the Famous & Secret East Side Food Tour, you’ll go one step further for a more "off-the-beaten-path" selection which provides an initiation to the most secret spots - and secret goodies at famous spots - which even some locals don’t know about. This is not a tour for light snackers, so bring your best appetite.

TYBEE ISLAND BEACH  - Tybee Island, GA

There are plenty of things to do on the tiny island of Tybee. Visit to the historic lighthouse or enjoy watersports, surfishing and sunbathing on the hard sandy beaches. Tybee Island is Savannah's beach destination, and here you'll find bikes and other beach gear for rent as well as special events ranging from book festivals to fireworks displays.

Hours of Operation: Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 9:00a.m.-5:30p.m., closed on except for major holidays .
